Why I LOVE THIS RECIPE: This recipe is handwritten by my grandma in her recipe book. It is indeed old as she passed away in 1947. Sadly, she was only in her early fifties and died before I was born.

Ingredients:
  • 2# dark raisins with seeds, ground in food grinder
  • 1-1/2 gal. lukewarm water
  • 2# sugar
  • 6 lemons, juice and rind
  • 2 cakes dry yeast, broken into small pieces

Directions:
  • Put ground raisins in large crock or jar
  • Add water, sugar, juice & rind from lemons and yeast
  • Stir well
  • Cover and let sit for 3 weeks, stirring every other day
  • Strain and fill jugs to top

RECIPE NOTES:

Raisins must be run through a grinder.  They are much too "gooey" for a food processor or blender.
