Tot Shabbat in the Northwest

Do you have a tot? What to celebrate Shabbat?

Join other Northwest families with young children and we celebrate Shabbat together at the Northwest Division office of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona.

Rabbi Batsheva Appel, from Temple Emanu-El, will lead us in song and prayer followed by fun PJ Library Shabbat crafts. Meet new friends and help us bring in Shabbat!

All Tot Shabbats are held at Jewish Federation Northwest (190 W Magee Rd., Ste 162) from 5p.m. to 6 p.m.

Our 2018-2019 dates are:

With our families, we welcome Shabbat with rhythm, movement, ruach (spirit) and song. Then we’ll share Shabbat dinner, followed by Open Lounge in the Linda Roy Youth Center with games and fun.

Dinner $25 per family (two adults & up to 4 children) for CAI members; guest family $30; adults (13+) $10 per person. RSVP a must by Dec. 17.

CAI’s Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Dr. Shai Held
Friday, Jan. 11 – Saturday, Jan. 12

Rabbi Dr. Shai Held – theologian, scholar, and educator – is President, Dean, and Chair in Jewish Thought at Mechon Hadar in New York City, where he also directs the Center for Jewish Leadership and Ideas. Previously, he served for six years as Scholar-in-Residence at Kehilat Hadar in New York City, and taught both theology and Halakhah at the Jewish Theological Seminary. He also served as Director of Education at Harvard Hillel. A 2011 recipient of the prestigious Covenant Award for excellence in Jewish education, Rabbi Held has been named multiple times to Newsweek’s list of the 50 most influential rabbis in America. He holds a doctorate in religion from Harvard; his main academic interests are in modern Jewish and Christian thought, in biblical theology, and in the history of Zionism. Dr. Held’s visit will include a Shabbat dinner* and presentation, and delivering the Shabbat morning D’var Torah and an afternoon presentation on Saturday.

*RSVP & fee required by Jan. 7 for Shabbat dinner only.

For each family that brings a Jewish family who has not experienced these services and/or dinners with us before, we’ll cover the cost of dinner for the host family and their guests! At this service, we welcome Shabbat with rhythm, movement, ruach and song. Then we share Shabbat dinner, followed by Open Lounge in the Linda Roy Youth Center with games and fun. Let us share the spirit of SHABBAT and help others live their Judaism together… with us.

RSVP needed for dinner only by Jan. 14.
