Why I LOVE THIS RECIPE: My Mother was a junior high school teacher and this was a recipe that was made by the cooks at the school. They were really happy to give the recipe to my Mother and we always challenged friends to try to figure out what the main ingredient was. Nobody ever guessed buttermilk!

INGREDIENTS AND DIRECTIONS:

7 1/4 oz sugar
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 oz flour
4 egg yolks
4 oz melted butter
2 cups buttermilk
2 tsp vanilla
4 egg whites

Combine sugar, salt, flour and mix well.

Mix slightly beaten egg yolks, melted butter, buttermilk and vanilla then blend into the sugar mixture.

Pour into an unbaked pie shell and bake at 325 for about 40 minutes, or until the top is crusty and brown.
