The JCRC is the public affairs and social-action arm of the Federation, addressing a wide variety of social, political and humanitarian issues. The JCRC expresses Jewish values and strengthens continuity and identity by: providing practical contexts through which to carry out a central concept of Judaism: Tikkun Olam – repairing the world; developing approaches to public policy issues from the viewpoint of Jewish values and traditions; offering entry points to Jewish communal life though social-action programs; creating opportunities to act as Jews and Americans as we work together to strengthen our society.
Standing up for Social Justice
We create Social Action projects (Mitzvah projects) which harness the volunteer power of the Jewish community, involving the young, the old, the religious and the unaffiliated, giving then meaningful ways to participate in the ongoing improvement of our civic environment.
Supporting Israel
We promote the well being and security of Jews in Israel and the rest of the world through advocacy and education. We do so by educating, monitoring, analyzing and publicizing issues and current events.
Building Partnerships
We work with partners inside and outside our Jewish community to identify issues and develop collaborative, constructive responses.
Impacting Government Policy
We function as an active agent of social awareness and conduit to political participation in matters that affect Tucson and the Jewish community. We do so by helping formulate public policy on societal issues and by developing strong relationships with local, state and federal elected officials.
Holocaust Education
We teach community educators and youth about the history of the Holocaust and the importance of tolerance, understanding, and respect in our world today.
