Selwyn-Barker

Barbara Selwyn and Dr. Jeffrey Selwyn of Tucson announce the engagement of their daughter, Dr. Amanda Perri Selwyn, to J. Adam Barker, son of Janet and John Barker of Denver, Colo.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Sabino High School, the University of Colorado in Boulder and the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She is completing her residency in anesthesiology at the University of Colorado in Denver. 

The prospective groom also is a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder. He attended Denver University College of Law and received a master's degree in taxation from Denver University. He is an attorney in Denver.

The wedding is planned for Oct. 22, 2005, in Tucson.

SARA COHEN and LINDA IMMERMAN-STOFFERS were among six women honored as "Remarkable Moms"at a luncheon at The Westin La Paloma Resort May 7 benefiting Tu Nidito, which provides support for children and families dealing with serious illness and death.

JANIS WOLFE GASCH of Arizona Hearing Specialists received the 2005 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the department of speech, language and hearing sciences at the University of Arizona.  She was recognized for her efforts in providing pro-bono audiologic services to indigent Mexican children through the non-profit St. Andrew's Children's Clinic in Nogales, Ariz.

KOREEN JOHANESSEN, vice president of the board of trustees for the Jewish Community Foundation of Southern Arizona, has been appointed to the Tucson/Pima Commission on Addiction Treatment and Prevention.

BETH BRAUN MISCIONE, a dancer and choreographer, has received the 2005 Buffalo Exchange Arts Award from the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona. The award recognizes emerging artists for "excellence, innovation and creativity"in the performing arts.

Child & Family Resources, Inc., will honor its recently retired founder, MARTHA K. ROTHMAN, at a luncheon featuring Gov. Janet Napolitano May 17 at The Westin La Paloma Resort.

STEVE SHENITZER, owner of Shenitzer Development, LLC, will be one of six men honored as a Father of the Year by the Father's Day Council Tucson at a dinner and gala June 11 at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. Proceeds will benefit The Steele Children's Research Center at the University of Arizona.

A daughter, TALYA RUTH FLEISHER, was born April 19, 2005, to Jason and Andrea Fleisher of Tucson. Grandparents are Nathan and Rhoda Miller of Tucson, Sander Fleisher of Sedona and Roma Fleisher of Los Angeles. Great-grandmother is Ilana Opalek of Las Vegas. The Fleishers also have a son, Noah.

ELI EDWARD ALSTER, son of Ellen and David Alster, will celebrate becoming a Bar Mitzvah on Saturday, May 21 at Congregation Anshei Israel.
He is the grandson of Faith and the late Caliste Alster of Tucson, and Ann and the late Earl Barth of Southfield, Mich.
Eli attends Tucson Hebrew Academy where he is an honor student. He plays chess and classical guitar, and participates in tae kwon do and wrestling. His mitzvah project is the Gilo Twinning Project in Israel.

IRINA ROSE STREITFELD, daughter of Diana and Dr. Stephen Streitfeld, will celebrate her Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, May 21 at Congregation Or Chadash.
She is the granddaughter of Dr. Murray and Jane Streitfeld of Coconut Creek, Fla., and the late Ruth Streitfeld of Tucson, Mary Ricart of New Orleans, La., and the late Homero Delgado Duarte.
Irina attends Magee Middle School where she is an honor student and plays cello in the orchestra. She enjoys ice skating and dances ballet, jazz and tap. For her mitzvah project, she is donating ÔBirthday in a Bag' to the Arizona Children's Association.

CARLY DIANE LEVY, daughter of Helaine and Yoram Levy, will celebrate becoming a Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, May 28, at Congregation Or Chadash.
She is the granddaughter of Joan and Donald Diamond of Tucson, and Myriam Levy of Caesaria, Israel.
Carly attends St. Gregory Middle School where she is an honor student. She enjoys singing and dance. Her mitzvah project is supporting the fundraising efforts of the Brandi Fenton Memorial Park and making a personal donation to the park.


KIRA SOPHIA O'SHEA, daughter of Mara Levin and Kevin O'Shea, will celebrate becoming a Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, May 28 at Temple Emanu-El.
She is the granddaughter of Herman and the late Leah Levin of Tucson, and Jeremiah and Eileen O'Shea of Santa Cruz, Calif.
Kira attends Orange Grove Middle School where she is an honor student. She plays oboe in the band and is on the basketball and volleyball teams. She enjoys golf, juggling and horseback riding. For her mitzvah project, Kira is working at the Community Food Bank garden program.


JORDAN DAVIS OLLANIK, son of Michelle and David Ollanik and the late Beth Ollanik, will celebrate becoming a Bar Mitzvah on Saturday, May 28, at Congregation Anshei Israel.
He is the grandson of Joan and Jordan Ollanik of Tucson, Novella and Don White of Rock Falls, Iowa, Ruth and Larry Garber of Tucson, and Helen and Stephen Rosen of Philadelphia, Pa.
Jordan attends Esperero Canyon Middle School where he is a member of the track team. He also plays football.


SAM YUVAL MEDINA, son of Michelle and David Ollanik and Moshe Medina, will celebrate becoming a Bar Mitzvah on Saturday, May 28 at Congregation Anshei Israel.
He is the grandson of Ruth and Larry Garber of Tucson, Helene and Stephen Rosen of Philadelphia, Pa., Marcelle and the late Itzack Medina of Jerusalem, Israel, Joan and Jordan Ollanik of Tucson, and Novella and Don White of Rock Falls, Iowa.
Sam attends Esperero Canyon Middle School where he is a member of the basketball and track teams.
