Marana High School to present award winning 'Anne Frank and Me'

Nicole Burns, a teenager who likes MTV and boys, doubts the Holocaust ever happened and couldn't care less about it. But thanks to the magic of the theater, she finds herself in the middle of that tragedy as she meets up with Anne Frank on a cattle car bound for Auschwitz.

Local drama patrons can watch Burns' awakening beginning Tuesday, Nov. 9, when the Marana High School Players present Anne Frank and Me, an award-winning play by Cherie Bennett, in the Marana High School Theatre, 12000 W. Emigh Road. Performances at the high school will run through Nov. 12; after that, there will be two shows at the Tucson Jewish Community Center, on Nov. 15 and 16. All shows, with the exception of a 2:30 p.m. matinee Nov. 9, will begin at 7 p.m.

"This is a compelling story that must be told and retold," said director Kent Sorensen. As part of that effort, Al Bremer, a Holocaust survivor, will speak to the audience after the Nov. 10 show.

Tickets to all evening presentations at Marana High are $3.50, $2.50 for children. Bring a can of food and receive a dollar off. Admission to the Nov. 9 matinee is $1. Survivors and veterans who attend the Nov. 10 performance get in free. There will be a pre-performance dinner at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 10. Admission to the dinner is $4, $2.50 for children. Email Sorensen at K.D.Sorensen@maranausd. org for reservations to the dinner.

The shows at the JCC are free and open to the public. Donations will, however, be accepted to benefit the Jewish Family and Children's Services and the JCC's Holocaust education programs. Call Sorensen at 616-6469 for more information
